How do I go about learning Reiki. Can I learn it over the internet? Do I have to take a class in it in the 3D? Are there good and bad teachers?
I'm near Philly, PA.

Reiki can be done over the internet.
You can do it yourself.
I believe the best way however is to find a reiki master and have the lessons and attunement face to face.
2nd best is to have someone you trust teach you over the internet, through msn or similar, then give you the attunement distantly.

I am at the highest level in the Usui lineage and have been studying for a few years. I would be glad to teach you for free (and anyone else who might be interested). This can be done online, and I will explain why should you take the offer up.
I strongly disagree that you can attune yourself. This defies logic. If it were possible then attunements wouldn't be necessary, as you would already be capable of channeling Reiki and using the symbols, two things required to attune, which is what the process of attunement is meant to enable you to do.
Part of the Attunement process is also learning everything you can. Your teacher should be able to answer any question you might have, and be there to actively take part in learning with you. You should not limit your learning to one source of information though... as the Buddha said, you should challenge everything. If it doesn't make sense, question it. Your teacher should welcome this.
There are good and "bad" people in absolutely everything in life, including Reiki. For example, I've heard of some teachers imprinting, in addition to the Reiki symbols, a symbol of obedience in their students, so that they stay loyal to them! There are other kinds of "bad" teachers as well, such as those who attune people and provide no instruction. There is MUCH to learn about Reiki, in fact you'll never stop being a student, and some of it is ABSOLUTELY essential... when these things aren't taught, people inevitably get hurt (for example, someone performed a session without any instruction after an attunement, and wasn't able to prepare the healee--or themself!-- for the fact that the symptoms would likely get worse before getting better, and both people are now afraid to perform Reiki at all now...).

welcome........so very nice to meet you!
Others have been in this forum trying to say that anyone can do reiki....so I see your frustration in that sense...even though the Reiki symbols are all over the internet it IS the 'attunement' that is a MUST....to anyone wondering what the 'attunement' is...it is simply stated as a sort of 'blessing' if you will. It can only be done by a Reiki Master...and you need to do Level's I and II before becoming a Master..............
Learning and becoming a reiki master has changed my life in every single aspect .......also oOwabi...have you thought about Karuna Reiki? I will tell you that I recently have done Level I and II in Karuna and, as Usui changed my life, Karuna has as well.........I am amazed at the connection it has made easier for me......more information when I meditate....a much closer relationship with the ethereal realm...
how sad that story about those two people! I'm shocked at how the process was done! Those who did this to them have surely got some karmic stuff to repay to them......that is SO very sad...those poor people! I don't understand why they did that? Is it pure laziness? It may be a good idea if those two were to contact William Rand and report the incident....in addition HE would take care of them and help them.......NO one should have to go through what was done to them.
as you said, 'anyone' who is a teacher and takes on being a teacher will always be there for their students....my reiki teacher was and is magnificent.....she has been at my side since my Level I and II...( which I did together) Any one who is considering learning reiki should 'check out' their credibility....and a credible teacher would not mind if they were checked out....
Anyway oOwabi-...very nice to see you've joined the forum! very nice to meet you! Can I ask where you are from? how long you've been doing the reiki? I started about 5 years ago...doing the Master Attunement a year after Level I & II
please share any experiences you feel would help people in here....

Namaste Dee!
It's nice to meet you too, and thank you for the warm welcome. I'm from Canada. I've been reading about Reiki for about three years, and had my first attunement about 2 and a half years ago. I had two teachers, both of whom are really wonderful people. I only did my "master attunement" about 4-5 months ago so that I could really focus on learning what I could in the first two levels, and then began offering free Reiki sessions and attunements to anyone who asked.
I'm actually VERY interested in learning Karuna Reiki, but don't have anyone to teach me at the moment. It seems to have ties with the concept of metta (loving-kindness) in Buddhism and it would be great to learn more about it.
I believe I've found someone to teach me Kundalini and Tachyon though so I'm really looking forward to that. I've begun looking in to qigong as well, and other techniques. I'm very familiar with crystals as well, as my first teacher loved them and had lots of techniques to combine them with Reiki.
The two people... yes it is very sad and unfortunate.  I've tried contacting her through the post she made, but unforuntately it was made a month ago and I don't know if she'll ever see it. I don't know why people do that... the teachings that go along with the actual attunement are equally important, if not more-so. It seems to be more and more common now, especially with online attunements (people setting up websites to get easy money and offering no support). I've seen too many posts titled "got my attunement - now what do I do?"... and asking so so many basic questions AFTER their attunements.

P.S> you can totally learn on your own without attunements. I did it myself... haha. I then proceeded to get attuned just in case, but I didn't gain much else after being attuned.
I think as long as the positive intent is there coupled with the desire to heal and abundant love, the energy flows naturally.
What I tell people is the symbols are nice but are really nothing more than words. They have power because they have had their definition so strongly imbued within them. Just like a word has no meaning until we give one to it. Well what gives the symbols power is the definition and intent behind them!! Basically, what this means is if you already have the intent, aka. you resonate on the same frequency as the symbols, the energy just starts to flow to and through you. The next step is to then learn how to use it, and pay attention to it, just like learning to walk.
I feel attunements and lessons are wonderful things as they help make this process easier and more efficient for some, but are not completely necessary. The link I sent above explains much of this. Anyways, love to all, and Peace

Ok, here's the thing. Reiki is inherent in everything. So it follows that everyone's inherently capable of using Reiki. But clearly we've forgotten, and most people aren't even aware of this, in fact most people don't even believe in it.
Now Usui-sensei spent a lengthy period of time in deep meditation and fasting in order to understand Reiki. This isn't realistic for most people and of course, even if one followed what he did precisely, there would be no gauruntee that they would come to any understanding of Reiki.
What he learned through this was how to teach Reiki to the layman. The symbols of course hold no power on their own... it's the deep history and meanings of the symbols that give them their power. Like mantras, they're an aid in meditation. They teach you important aspects of Reiki and, because we understand their meanings and history, they become an aid in focusing our minds and intent. Through studying the symbols and using them, we can learn some of the most important lessons of Reiki. They're learning tools... important ones, and ones we should respect for that very reason.
So anyone can technically learn to use Reiki to an extent (heck, you could even become highly efficient at it if you're willing to dedicate the sort of time and effort Usui-sensei did... but that's the point, most people aren't capable of doing that, and reading articles on the internet isn't a replacement for a teacher who can adapt to your learning style and find ways to make sure YOU truly understand what needs to be understood), anyone can technically channel Reiki.
But self-attune? No. If you're following the beliefs of the Usui system, if you want to be attuned, then that would be impossible. It's a ritual, and according to the belief system, you have to be attuned to the symbols in order to use them, therefore it defies logic that one could attune themselves to the symbols. There would be no need, as you could use them without being attuned. So why would you want to be attuned in the first place?

| Hehe, if you go to the link I sent you, it is not exactly a self-attune thing. There are specific instructions on a page blessed to set up the riual and granted the permission with the symbols and everything. I know my ritual was quite beautiful, I had my higher self and about 6-9 angels attend... Very golden and pretty :-D

My comments weren't specifically directed at you, but people who believe self-attunements are possible in general.
The website you linked to says "This course is provided as-is, as a self-attunement method of learning Reiki. "
My problem with such a website is that:
1. They're trying to provide attunements and not ensuring that people read and truly understand the lessons first. That's not responsible. As I said before, I have seen examples of how people get hurt because of this.
2. There's no support from a teacher provided. So you get the free attunement but then what happens if you don't have money and have questions that need answering?
3. It's also apparent that not all the information is taught for free. To learn how to send Reiki "backwards in time," or basically heal past trauma/memories (Level II), for example, you have to pay for a new level that they made up.
It's not self-attunement in the sense that we were initially talking about, but as I said before, having a teacher/mentor take an active role in your learning is a VERY important part of the attunement process, and so I don't agree with this method either.
I believe in giving Reiki for free when needed... if someone can't afford it, I would never turn them away... I've given many, many free attunements. But I learned through experience that methods like this aren't the responsible way to go about it.

I want to learn reiki... but it's very expensive here, at least for a foreign student like me who still needs to pay tuition fees for college. LOL.
I hope someone here can teach me and give me the attunements.

| I would like to learn too . I was attuned to level 1 and 2 learned the symbols but have not put it into use . Would like to learn it again and this time study it and use it on myself and others for their highest good .

Hey Dee,
How wonderful you have become a Reiki Master. I knew you were involved with Reiki but I didn't realize you had completed the Mastery level. Thank you all of you for providing all of this wonderful information. I practiced Qigong for a time and occasionally I would visit a Qigong Master for a healing session and found it to be one of the most energizing and uplifting experiences. I felt light as if I was walking on air! I would love to learn more about Reiki which I hear can offer a calming effect rather than an energizing effect, both are said to have healing effects, is that right?
I sure could use some healing right about now!! )

I think it would be wonderful if everyone learned reiki..........I did check out this website from Multi....only one thing kind of bothered me a little about him saying 'sometimes touch is needed'...isn't that a contradiction somehow?
Those of us who believe an 'attunement' NOT a treatment but attunement to become a reiki practitioner should be done 'in person' is because it is a very personal event....it is a special event.....and it is a 'blessing' of sorts...The symbols are taught for obvious reasons...and I've seen people in this forum who've done level I and II and felt ill and didn't know what to make of any of it and had NO direction after it was done.....so, they never used it......My reiki teacher 'took me under her wing' so to speak.....I could call on her anytime and in fact we still spend time together and talk ...She is a huge form of support as well as a huge source of knowledge and guidance as well....I have no problem with people doing it on line I just don't feel it has the same effect...I could literally 'feel' the energy of the universe coming down into my crown chakra...I sobbed...and felt like I was finally connected to something bigger than myself...something I will never forget. If it is ok to have an attunement over the internet then why would he say that sometimes the 'touch' is needed. There is also a code of ethics involved with teaching reiki.....if I were to become a practitioner and Teacher I would have to charge a fee.....to support myself and put a roof over my head....just like anyone who has a job out in the world...I do free reiki treatments...always have ......I've never charged...IF I do start my own practice then I will have to charge...again to support my self in life....
To Anabelle.......I received my Master/Teacher training about a year and half ago.....and now have done Karuna level I and II....which is more of the ethereal realm....working closely with AAngels and Ascended Masters...etc.
It has changed everything for me. The connection to those angels and guides is much much clearer...and guidance from Divine as well....I feel them more now. I just have to say if anyone can tap in to that reiki energy, if you ever have the chance to learn and do it...please do...it changed my life....my outlook on life and my priorities completely.
the Qui Gong is 'wonderful'....I was suppose to learn it and teach that as well....but, the woman lives in Maine and it was too hard to get there every weekend for two months....but, later I do plan on it........It is VERY healing.....a wonderful thing to do for the body and mind....
Reiki can work the same way.....it doesn't always do the 'calming' thing...I find it gives me energy I need to get through my long day with fibromyalgia...It also helps in that I can go longer without meds or take less meds....I am working on raising my vibration and become more in tune with the universal energies and heal it completely....It can and will be done....
If there is anyone you can take the reiki from Anabelle maybe it's time? Follow that urge....ask for guidance ...maybe they are trying to tell you it's time? You won't be sorry....it's wonderful!!! as I said before...my third eye opened after my level I and II....it was so awesome......I wanted to run around and tell everyone I knew all about the third eye thing....like a little kid...and if you can do I and II together it's a good thing...the difference is so little that it's just as easy to do both...no reason to wait.....I didn't and I was fine...some people say not to but I can't find any reason why not.....it's only a matter of learning three symbols...nothing else.
let me know if you decide to do it....are there people around you who teach it? I can give you a site to check out where they can find you someone to see about it...prices vary from teacher to teacher.....I only paid $300. for both levels and then the same for my master level...a lot cheaper than most charge. I love my teacher!!! she just wants as many people as possible to learn it...and times are tough...
